FAQ:

Q: What is your tattooing method

A: I practice tattooing using a hand-poke (commonly known as stick and poke) technique, which means I manually insert ink into the skin with a tattoo needle rather than using a tattoo machine.

Q: WHERE ARE YOU LOCATED?

A: I am located in Seattle, Washington. I work out of a tattoo collective called Green Tulip located in the Uptown area. Due to safety precautions, I will not disclose the address of my studio until a client confirms an appointment.

Q: Do you do any custom work or flash-only?

A: As of right now, I am taking on flash, custom, and mostly freehand work.

Flash designs are pre-drawn pieces that are prepared before the appointment with the intention of it being available to anyone who wants to have it tattooed. With my practice, I tend to allow flash to be claimed by 2 individuals before it is no longer available for others.

Custom work relies on you and your artist designing the piece together. You can provide a reference photo or describe your idea, and I will create it for you. With my practice, I only take on custom typography - meaning words, phrases, or letters designed in a one-of-a-kind way.

Q: How do I book an appointment with you?

A: When I open my books, I will release a booking form on my website so that you can submit an inquiry (no DM’s about booking please). I will link this form on my IG stories and in my bio the day my books open. Once the form is up, you will need to fill out a series of questions regarding your inquiry. If your inquiry is selected, I will reach out via email.

Q: How do you choose who you book with?

A: I will typically choose inquiries on a first come first serve basis (yet I will only take on projects that interest me). That means if two people have identical submissions for flash, I will choose whoever submitted first. The things I take into consideration are design, placement, size, budget, and availability.

Q: Do you take a deposit?

A: Yes - I require a $50 non-refundable deposit for flash and a $100 non-refundable deposit for custom and freehand. The deposit will be applied to the total cost of your tattoo and holds your appointment slot. Once we find a date and time that works for both of us, I will send you the deposit information. You will have 3 days to send in your deposit. If I do not receive your deposit within those 3 days, I will give your appointment spot away to the next interested individual.

Q: What are your rates?

A:

  • Flash: charged at a flat rate (with a $200 minimum) and is estimated based on the size, placement & complexity of the design. Flash generally ranges from $300 - $800.

  • Custom: charged at an hourly rate of $150/hour.

  • Freehand: the first hour will cost $200 (as a drawing fee). All remaining hours will be charged at the hourly rate of $150. For reference, most of the freehand work you see on my Instagram ranges from $400 - $1500 (some being large-scale/multi-session pieces).

My booking form has a ‘budget’ section, which I try to accommodate in most instances. Please note that my rates cover my: shop rent, taxes (30% of my income), supplies, licensing, and my time before and after the appointment (including emailing, scheduling, drawing, appointment prep, and breakdown).

Q: Do hand-poked tattoos hurt more than machine tattoos?

A: The pain level of tattoos is subjective to the placement of the tattoo and the individual getting tattooed. However, hand-poked tattoos are much less abrasive to the skin, therefore could be considered less painful. Because we are manually inserting the ink into the skin rather than using a machine, the process takes much longer. Sometimes this makes the area more tender over time.

Q: How should I prepare for my tattoo?

A: In the days/weeks leading up to your appointment, moisturize the area regularly. Also try your best to drink plenty of water, eat a good meal, and get an adequate amount of sleep the day/night before your appointment. Avoid drinking alcohol, caffeine, or energy drinks the night and day of the tattoo procedure. Tattoos are traumatizing to the body so it's good to be prepared in order to ensure healthy healing.

On the day of the appointment, please eat and drink water before arriving. I recommend that you wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing and bring along a snack and something to drink.

Q: WHAT SHOULD I WEAR TO MY APPOINTMENT?

A: For most sessions, I recommend that you wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing (preferably clothes that you do not care about) that will allow me access to the area you want to get tattooed. For sessions where we are tattooing sensitive areas, I will meet you wherever you are most comfortable in terms of privacy. For health and safety reasons, I cannot have your clothing touch the area we are tattooing. I have pasties, disposable bras, and underwear that you are more than welcome to use. In some cases, we will just wrap a disposable drape sheet around you in order to be comfortable. If you’d like particular suggestions on what to wear based on the area you are looking to get tattooed, feel free to reach out to me with questions. I also provided some examples below:

Back: A button-up top that we can flip backward, a swimsuit top (one that unties from the back), a bandeau (good for upper back only),

Hips/groin area: loose-fitting sweats or shorts (we can tuck one leg in and one out), a skirt that can lift up on that side,

Q: Acceptable forms of payment?

A: I accept the following forms of payment for deposits: Venmo + Paypal. For appointments, I prefer cash for payments + tips.

Q: What is your cancellation policy?

A: In the event that you need to reschedule, I require an email notice 48 hours in advance. We will move your deposit with your appointment up to two times before it is forfeited. Cancellations or reschedules within 48 hours of your appointment will automatically forfeit the deposit with no exceptions. Deposits are non-refundable and non-transferable. (If I need to cancel the appointment due to an emergency, I will return the deposit)

Q: WHAT IF I AM LATE TO MY APPOINTMENT?

A: I have a 25-minute late policy. If you are more than 25 minutes late to our scheduled appointment time, this will forfeit your deposit and your appointment entirely and I will not reschedule or book with you again. I will make exceptions on a case-by-case basis. Being on time for your appointment is very important. Not only in terms of respecting my time but my other clients’ time as well. I have a limited schedule and oftentimes I will schedule people back to back. When you’re on time, I am able to stay on schedule for the rest of my day.

Q: How long will my tattoo appointment take?

A: On average, my appointments take 2-4 hours from start to finish. Everyone is different and there are many factors that can affect the time it takes to get through the appointment. (These factors include the complexity of the design, size, placement, breaks, etc). If you have a time restraint on the day of your appointment, please communicate that with me from the beginning and I will try my best to accommodate.

Q: How long does it take for my hand-poked tattoo to heal?

A: Just like any other tattoo, a hand-poked tattoo will take about 4 weeks to heal. All bodies are different - some heal faster, some heal slower. Sometimes hand-poked tattoos heal faster than machine-made tattoos. This is because, with this process, we are actually not inserting the needle/ink into the skin as deeply as a machine would go therefore it is less damaging to the skin and can aid in faster healing times.

Q: Can I get a touch-up?

A: Absolutely! I offer 1 free touch-up throughout the lifetime of your tattoo. Just email or DM me, and I can fit you in as soon as I can. I will give all touch-ups priority with scheduling. If you are interested in adding more to the tattoo and/or coming in for a 2nd touch-up, we will need to book you like any other appointment.
